Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations, Delhi-NCR: Activities
Annual Mega Medical Camp, East District
“One cannot cross the ocean of this cycle of births and deaths by visiting many sacred places, nor by performing japa and studying the Sastras. It is only possible to do so by performing seva or service.”
- Summer Showers 1973 - Indian Culture and Spirituality
The Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations, Delhi-NCR, East District’s annual mega medical camp is a cherished tradition that began in 1998 under the guidance of the late Shri B.K. Sharma, a retired IAS officer and devotee of our beloved Bhagawan.
This noble initiative was envisioned as a celebration of Swami’s teachings of selfless service, with inspiration from Dr. Vipin Singhal, also a dedicated Sai devotee and a respected physician.
From its humble inception, this selfless endeavour began with a minimalist setup comprising three consultant specialists, primarily serving elderly patients with complex medical needs.
Health is essential for happiness; happiness or a capacity to be happy, whatever may happen is essential for physical health, too. - Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba (Sri Sathya Sai Speaks, Vol 12)
With the passage of time, the camp expanded its services to include free blood sugar testing in 1999, leading to early diagnoses for many individuals. By 2002, the camp began providing free medicines to all patients, and in 2004, ECG and eye tests were added to the roster of services. In subsequent years, additional facilities such as ultrasound screenings and comprehensive medical care further enhanced the camp’s range of Seva offerings, thus making it a safe anchor and refuge for local communities.
Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations, Delhi-NCR: Annual Mega Medical Camp, East District - Highlights
Each camp begins with a half-hour bhajan session and concludes with mangal aarti and distribution of prasadam. Few motivational talks inspired by Bhagawan’s teachings motivate the participants to embrace the spirit of seva, thereby fostering a sense of community and shared purpose.
All men are of one lineage; they are of Divine Lineage. All men are cells in the One Divine organism, in the Divine body. That should be your faith, your fortune, your forte, your fullness. Awareness of this alone gives you the right to call yourself a man. Learn to live as men. This is the sadhana, this is the message of Sai. - Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, Sri Sathya Sai Speaks, Vol 12)
During Covid-19 pandemic and in 2022, there was a brief closure to align with the regulatory requirements at that time. Thereafter, the camp resumed in November 2023, continuing the selfless mission of compassionate service.
Every year, the medical camp is held close to November 23rd, which is Bhagawan’s birthday celebration. Many lives are transformed by the gentle care and thoughtfulness with which their medical conditions are documented, checked and diagnosed. With their loving and caring efforts, the doctors are able to help and reach out to many people who enrol themselves for this camp.
Around 30-35 doctors from various specialties graciously participate in the annual mega medical camp, thereby providing routine check-ups and medical investigations to 200 patients who had enrolled themselves for the medical check up and are examined with utmost care and the spirit of Seva.
Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations, Delhi NCR’s East District organised a Mega Medical Camp led by State Medical Incharge Dr. Vipin Singhal. This is the 26th consecutive Medical Camp organised in East District, to commemorate Swami’s 99th Birthday ON November 23, 2024
This year, the camp brought together around 30 doctors from 15 specialties, thereby providing free testing, consultation, and medicines to over 250 patients.
With gratitude to Bhagawan, we convey our deepest appreciation to all the doctors, their staff and our Seva Dal, who had participated and contributed to this noble seva initiative.
Together, we are making a positive difference in the lives of many and sharing Bhagawan’s divine blessings!
